Joinery is a specialism within carpentry, which focuses on the connection of pieces of wood to make products such as staircases and window frames.

Skilled Joiners bind pieces of wood together using traditional craft methods such as dovetail joinery and lap joints. Joiners need to be able to visualise a finished product, follow instructions accurately, and solve problems. They should also be skilled in the use of woodcutting machines and a range of hand tools.

There are several different types of joinery that professionals can choose to specialise in: bench joinery, fixing, formwork and shopfitting. The specialism a joiner chooses affects where they will work as well; workshops, construction sites, residential buildings or commercial buildings are all potential locations.

Describe your most memorable moment so far?

The moment I presented the first job I had done independently to a customer.
