A landscape gardener designs or redesigns gardens and landscapes using different materials such as stone, soil, plants and turf.

Landscape gardening seeks to enhance the environment, particularly around buildings and in parks. Landscape gardeners can specialise in hard landscaping such as developing golf courses or building ponds, or soft landscaping like grounds maintenance. This may involve installing water features, laying turf and planning planting schemes.

Landscape gardeners mainly work outdoors and can be employed by private individuals, architects, companies or local authorities. Overall in the UK alone, the sector is worth over £8.9 billion per year (LANTRA 2008).

Why did you choose Landscape Gardening as a career?

I know that I am a pragmatic and logical person who enjoys working outdoors, so it was a natural decision. The variation of work that this trade offers is one of the many things I really value.
