Stonemasons carve many different types of stone, from granite to
marble to produce objects, decorations and building finishes.
They construct both decorative objects and work on buildings to
help construct walls, arches and ornamental decorations. To do this
work, it is essential that stonemasons have a good understanding of
the properties and tolerances of many different types of stone.
Stonemasons use a variety of power tools and hand tools. They
may also use detailed blueprints if undertaking a complex project
and will repair and maintain stonework as well. Famous works
include the Taj Mahal in India, Stonehenge in the UK and the
Parthenon, Greece.
