A mould maker designs metal moulds which are used to produce plastic parts for products such as your computer mouse and mobile phone.

Many different types of organisations and companies need plastic parts for their products. For example computer mice can have around ten different plastic components, all of which would need an individual mould to make the parts for the completed product.

The customer briefs a mould maker who, from a drawing or sketch, designs and executes the metal moulds needed for that part. The part is then molded, usually in plastic, and any secondary operations such as decorating or assembly are done.

My mother went to a great deal of effort to find the right college for me. I didn't always appreciate it but now, thanks to her, I have a great career to look forward to!
