Cooks, or chefs, plan, prepare, cook and execute different foods and meals for customers. They also usually manage commercial kitchens.

Cooking is a competitive and desirable career and has been made even more so by the popularity of cooking television shows and celebrity chefs. The job of a cook is to invent recipes, to prepare and cook foods and to always work in accordance with health and safety regulations.

Success and skill in cooking involves developing appetising, nutritious and wonderful meals, whilst also being aware of cost and food hygiene. Many cooks are also responsible for several staff and the smooth running of the kitchen, to ensure food is prepared safely, accurately and on time.

What do you enjoy about your skill?

I grew up in a kitchen and I love everything involved in a typical day of work down to the smallest things, from turning baby carrots for an hour to improving my knife skills.
